Understanding the difference between Adobe Captivate and Captivate Classic
Adobe has two versions of Adobe Captivate, and they both have a similar name. The new version of Adobe Captivate is called Captivate, while the original version of Adobe Captivate is now Adobe Captivate Classic. Adobe still supports both, and if you buy a subscription to Adobe Captivate, you also get access to Adobe Captivate Classic.
The original Captivate, now called Captivate Classic, was available as a perpetual license, in which you could buy the software with a one-time payment and have access to it forever. The new version of Adobe Captivate requires a monthly or annual subscription. The new Captivate subscription includes access to both the old Classic version of Captivate and the new version of the app.
You can have both the new Captivate and old Captivate apps on your computer at the same time. You can create e-learning projects in both versions of Captivate. The two versions of Captivate are not interchangeable. The projects you create in the new Captivate version are incompatible with Captivate Classic.
The difference between the new Captivate and Captivate Classic
The new version of Captivate is updated to support modern web browsers, allowing you to create courses that can be used on mobile, tablet, and desktop computers through responsive design. The new Captivate also includes new ways to interact with video content and create software simulations. Both Captivate Classic and the new Captivate are useful for creating training content; the newer version is more suited for training where the layout needs to change based on the type of device being used by the learner who is consuming the training content.
