Graphic Design Class for High School Students

In this Graphic Design class, high school students learn the principles of great design and typography from a design industry professional while using professional-grade Adobe design software to create digital drawings, logos, advertisements, magazine layouts, and more. Students complete the week by creating a digital portfolio to showcase their work. No prior art or design experience is necessary for this program. This graphic design class is offered for one week only each year in the summer.

Graphic Design Class Topics Covered:

  • Principles of great graphic design
  • Digital drawing and tracing
  • Typography and text effects
  • Creating print advertisements
  • Editing and retouching images
  • Designing and creating a logo
  • Print design layouts
  • Conducting a design critique
  • Creating a digital design portfolio

Applications used for the graphic design class (all supplied for in-class use):

  • Adobe Photoshop
  • Adobe Illustrator
  • Adobe InDesign

By the end of the graphic design class, students will gain:

  • Knowledge of basic design principles
  • Basic understanding of Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign
  • Insight into the opportunities and challenges of a design career
  • Portfolio of graphic design work

Graphic Design Class - Sample Daily Schedule:

9:00 am to 9:15 am - Arrive at AGI

9:30 am - Workshops start: learn new topics and techniques

10:00 am - Complete practice exercises

10:45 am - Morning break

11:00 am - Learn new topics and techniques

11:45 pm - Project planning

12:30 pm - Lunch

1:30 pm - Individual or collaborative project work

3:00 pm - Afternoon break

3:15 pm - Complete, review and share projects

4:00 pm - Class ends for the day

You will receive comprehensive course materials with this class developed by the Adobe Certified Instructors at AGI. AGI instructors have created many of the official training guides and books for Adobe Systems.
