Why learn Excel

There are many benefits to learning Excel. As the most widely used spreadsheet application, it is helpful both personally and professionally to be able to use Excel. Excel helps you to organize, analyze, present, and share data effectively, whether for work or for personal needs. Some of the benefits of learning Excel include:

  1. Improved data management using Excel. Excel makes it possible to efficiently store and manage large sets of data so you can track, sort, and filter to find just the information you need at any time. Excel, like other spreadsheets, uses a grid-based structure to hold data within cells. You can use the data to create tables and categorize information within rows or columns, making it easier to maintain and update. Whether managing a lists of names and addresses or an inventory of products and parts, or tracking who is working on which parts of a project, Excel helps to organize your information..
  2. Perform better data analysis with Excel. With built-in formulas, functions, and pivot tables, Excel makes it possible to perform calculations and gain insights from data that has been well organized. Excel includes a library of functions and formulas that makes it possible to perform calculations and filtering. Functions like SUM, AVERAGE, and IF help with basic arithmetic, and more advanced functions such as VLOOKUP and HLOOKUP help in retrieving specific data. All these functions are covered in AGI’s Excel classes.
  3. Share information more clearly with Excel data visualization. Excel’s charts and graphs make it easy to visualize data to show trends, patterns, and to communicate data to stakeholders in a clear and compelling way. Excel can represent data through bar charts, line graphs, pie charts, along with many other options. These data visualizations help communicate numbers and analysis in a way that is easy to understand.
  4. Excel makes you more efficient: Excel can save time by streamlining data entry and calculation. Excel includes several automation features like automatically completing data as it is entered, limiting data being input to a specific format or set of choices, and applying conditional formatting to set color or styles to data based upon what is input into Excel. You can also use macros to record a sequence of actions and repeat them on other sets of data.
  5. Get a better job with Excel skills: Excel is a valuable job skill across many job functions and industries. Whether seeking your first job, looking to advance within your current company, or simply perform better at your existing job, Excel skills are helpful. Many job roles require data analysis, reporting, financial modeling, and project management - and all of these benefit from learning Excel. Having Excel skills on your CV, Resume, or LinkedIn profile is an added benefit and helps you stand-out.

With all these benefits, it's understandable that so many people want to attend Excel courses, whether they work on a Mac, a Windows PC, or use a Chromebook.
