Photoshop backlash improves sales at fashion retailer

Since listening to the backlash against Photoshop retouching, a teen-focused clothing retailer reduced the use of Photoshop and has seen positive results. A dramatic increase in sales has followed since retailer Aerie has focused on using models across a wide range of sizes and body types and displaying them without the use of Photoshop retouching in their advertisements and on their website.

Photoshop changes NHL hockey team

The New Jersey Devils NHL hockey team used impressive Photoshop skills and web design talent to craft an impressive April fool’s day prank. The team made an announcement that they planned to change their name to the New Jersey Angels at the start of next year’s hockey season. As part of the announcement they showed off changes in the stadium, the team’s jerseys, and on the ice, all of which had been edited using Photoshop. The team even developed a new professional looking logo, likely created using Adobe Illustrator, complete with an angel wing and halo.

Government agencies show need for learning Photoshop

Last week yet another world leader demonstrated how there’s a near universal need among government agencies to learn Photoshop. The official government of India’s Press Information Bureau used some less-than-stellar Photoshop skills to modify an image of the Prime Minister, then shared the edited image on social media. The Photoshop work was so poor that it was quickly noticed, criticized, and spawned a series of imitators.

Adobe Photoshop Cloud Service Revel to close

Adobe is quietly shutting down their original Photoshop cloud service known as Revel. This will primarily impact Photoshop Elements users who benefit from the unlimited Photoshop cloud storage, backup, and file synchronization. Originally launched in 2011 under the name of Carousel, Adobe renamed the service Revel and connected it with their Photoshop Elements application that is available for Mac and Windows computers.

In an effort to avoid Photoshop-like effects from being applied to news images, photographs captured in the RAW format will no longer be accepted from by Reuters from news photographers. The large international news organization is requiring that all news images be captured, processed, and saved in the JPEG format.

Differences between Google Photos and Photoshop Disappearing

The differences between Google Photos and Photoshop are disappearing, especially on mobile and tablet devices, despite their different origins. Photoshop was originally used primarily for editing images, while Google Photos was used almost exclusively as an online location for storing photos. As Google has unbound Google Photos from their Google Plus social service, and cloud computing capabilities have increased, Google Photos is pushing into territory once held exclusively by Adobe Photoshop.

Fashion magazines Photoshop problems continue

There has been yet another problem with a fashion magazines use of Photoshop this past week. Over-editing and excessive retouching are continuing to cause embarrassment and problems for magazine publishers. This week the fashion magazine Modeliste pulled an entire printed issue of the publication before it went into circulation after being publicly shamed for using highly-edited images of Zendaya, a model, actress and singer.
